Meet the Roots
Dex — Numeracy Root. Actually, that’s 37.

About Dex

Dex notices what others miss — patterns, numbers, relationships and the tiny details. He understands the world through logic and maths, and he’s brilliant, thoughtful and honest about it.

For Dex, the real challenge isn’t solving problems — it’s understanding people! He leads the Numeracy Root, where counting, patterns and problem-solving turn into puzzles worth cracking.

Patterns are everywhere — if you look closely.

Actually, that’s 37 leaves, not 36.

Dex focuses on…

Spotting Patterns

Notices the patterns and details others walk past.

Counting & Calculating

Works things out with numbers — carefully and accurately.

Solving Puzzles

Loves a tricky problem and won’t stop until it’s solved.

For parents

How Dex helps your child grow

Numeracy & Thinking

Counting, patterns, logic and problem-solving — how children make sense of number and the world.

Number & counting

Counting 1–5, then 1–10, teens and 20, on to 100 and skip counting — building all the way to place value.

Number sense

Subitising (seeing how many at a glance), one-to-one matching, ten-frames, and comparing amounts.

Patterns & reasoning

Copying and extending patterns — AB, then ABB/ABC, growing patterns and number patterns.

Shape, space & measurement

2D and 3D shapes, position and direction, and comparing size, length and time.

Operations & problem-solving

Part-part-whole thinking, addition and subtraction within 10 then 20, and simple two-step problems.
